Man Arrested in Kyiv for Robbing Injured Soldier in Wheelchair

In the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, police arrested a 32-year-old man who robbed an injured soldier.

The perpetrator, who had previous convictions for property crimes, attacked a 28-year-old serviceman near a store. The soldier, who was in Kyiv for rehabilitation after losing a limb on the front lines, was using a wheelchair.

Circumstances of the Crime

The incident occurred when the victim stopped near the store. An unknown man approached him and started a conversation. When the soldier took out his wallet to count his money, the attacker suddenly snatched 5,000 hryvnias from him and attempted to flee.

“The 28-year-old soldier, having lost a limb in battles on the front lines, was in Kyiv for rehabilitation and was moving in a wheelchair. He stopped near the store when an unknown man approached him and started a conversation. However, when the soldier took out his wallet to count his money before making a purchase, the new acquaintance snatched 5,000 hryvnias from him and ran away,” the report states.

Police Actions and Accountability

The police quickly established the attacker’s characteristics and analyzed footage from surveillance cameras. As a result, the perpetrator was apprehended in the area. It is known that he is a resident of Kyiv and a repeat offender, previously convicted of similar crimes.

The detained man has been charged under part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery committed in a state of martial law). The penalty for this article provides for imprisonment for up to ten years. During the investigation, the suspect will remain in custody.
