Massive Drone and Missile Attack on Kyiv: Casualties, Destruction, and Fires

On the night of September 7, the Russian Federation launched a large-scale air attack on the territory of Ukraine, focusing strikes on Kyiv. According to the Air Force, the enemy used several types of weapons: strike drones “Shahed”, imitation drones, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles.

Scale of the Air Attack and Air Defense Operations

In total, the enemy fired 805 strike drones and their imitators at Ukraine, nine “Iskander-K” cruise missiles, and four “Iskander-M/KN-23” ballistic missiles. Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed or suppressed 751 aerial targets, including 747 drones and four cruise missiles. However, some enemy munitions reached their targets: impacts from nine missiles and 56 drones were recorded at 37 locations, and debris from downed objects fell in eight different areas.

The situation in the capital was particularly difficult that night. As a result of the attack, two people were killed, and another 18 were injured. The Sviatoshyn district was especially hard hit: a mother and her three-month-old son died under the rubble of a high-rise building, while the father was hospitalized with serious injuries. Fire engulfed three buildings, several cars were destroyed, and warehouse premises were damaged. Two patrol police officers were also injured and taken to the hospital.

Consequences of the Attack on Kyiv

“Enemy drones flew into ordinary people’s homes, right into their windows. In a sixteen-story building in the Sviatoshyn district — the last three floors. In one of the damaged nine-story buildings in the area, there was partial destruction from the fourth to the eighth floors. As of now, there are two fatalities, including a child. The Russians killed a mother and her son, who was only 3 months old, and the father sustained serious injuries. In another nine-story building, the third floor was damaged, and rescuers saved nine people. Work is ongoing at all locations.

Fires have been reported in many areas of the city. In particular, cars and non-residential areas caught fire, and the roof of one of the kindergartens was damaged, where the fire was quickly extinguished. In the Darnytsia district, a drone hit a four-story building, partially destroying the upper floors. In the Holosiivskyi district, reports indicate broken windows and debris in open areas.

The building of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine was also damaged during the shelling — fire engulfed several floors and the roof, and the fire is being extinguished with the help of a helicopter.
