The Necessity of Support Services for the Injured

Nataliya Kalinyuk, case manager for the support service for injured and ill servicemen of the 20th Operational Brigade “Liubart,” emphasizes the importance of establishing support services in every military brigade. According to her, these specialists should take care of the injured soldiers, as the process of rehabilitation and reintegration into civilian life is complex and requires professional support.

“I would like every brigade to have a support service because it is super important! Relatives of soldiers should not be dealing with such situations and matters because it is too complicated: it involves documentation, psychological support, and extensive work that should be handled by professionals in this field, rather than placing all of this on the families’ shoulders,” says Nataliya Kalinyuk.

The Role of Case Managers in Military Hospitals

Case managers working in the support service directly interact with the injured in hospitals. They provide soldiers with everything they need, including medications that may be lacking in specific facilities, handle documentation, and gather individual requests from the soldiers. Each medical facility has its own case manager responsible for processing inquiries and supporting servicemen.

“When a soldier arrives at the hospital, our task is to provide him with everything necessary. This includes specific medications that may not be available in that or another medical facility if needed. We also work with documentation, gather requests from the soldiers. Each of us has our own tasks. After all, there is a case manager at each location who receives these requests,” the medic explained.

Thus, the involvement of professional case managers in the treatment and rehabilitation process of injured soldiers not only ensures quality assistance but also alleviates the psychological and organizational burden on the soldiers’ families.
