The Netherlands has announced a significant increase in support for Ukraine in the area of air defense, particularly through the supply of American Patriot systems. This was stated by the Dutch Minister of Defense, Ruben Brekelmans, following the conclusion of the meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the “Ramstein” format.
Increased Defense Support from the Netherlands
According to Brekelmans, specialists from both sides are currently working on finalizing the details of the agreement. In addition to the Patriot systems, the Netherlands intends to further enhance its assistance to Ukraine by providing ammunition for F-16 fighters, counter-drone systems, and modern radars.
“We are also strengthening our support for air defense: ammunition for F-16s, counter-drone systems, radars.”
Ukraine’s Need for Modern Air Defense Systems
During the meeting in the “Ramstein” format on July 21, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi emphasized that a key requirement for the Ukrainian army remains the acquisition of modern air defense systems and their ammunition.
In turn, on July 14, U.S. President Donald Trump, during talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, announced intentions to provide military assistance to Ukraine amounting to “billions of dollars.” According to him, NATO plans to procure, among other things, Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine.
