A severe storm has swept through Odesa and its neighboring regions, causing significant destruction and loss of life. As a result of the natural disaster, nine people have died, including a child. Meteorologists reported that within a short period, the city and region received two months’ worth of rainfall, leading to widespread flooding and emergency situations.
Rescue Operations and Evacuations
Rescue workers from the State Emergency Service (SES) worked continuously for nearly a day to mitigate the aftermath of the disaster. Special attention was given to the search for a missing girl, who was found only around 7:00 AM the following day. Additionally, rescue services actively assisted in evacuating people trapped in floodwaters and were involved in retrieving vehicles and pumping water out of buildings.
“Rescue workers have been addressing the consequences of the storm in Odesa and the surrounding area for almost a day. Currently, there are reports of nine fatalities, including a child,” the statement said.
Scale of Resources and Equipment Deployed
A total of 255 rescuers and 68 units of equipment from the SES were involved in addressing the aftermath of the storm. As a result of operational measures, 362 people were rescued and 227 vehicles were evacuated. Efforts to overcome the consequences of the disaster are ongoing, and rescue services remain on high alert due to the risk of further flooding.

According to experts, such a volume of rainfall in a short period is anomalous for the region, complicating the recovery process and increasing the burden on emergency services.
