The United States has agreed to provide Ukraine with intelligence information that will enable long-range strikes on energy infrastructure within the territory of the Russian Federation. According to American media reports, these steps are aimed at supporting Ukraine’s efforts to deprive the Kremlin of revenue from oil and energy.

Tomahawk Missiles for Ukraine

Strengthening Military Support and Prospects for Long-Range Weapons

Discussions are ongoing in Washington regarding the possibility of supplying Ukraine with long-range missiles, including Tomahawk cruise missiles. US Vice President Jay D. Vance confirmed at the end of September that the final decision on this matter would be made by President Donald Trump. At the same time, American officials are urging NATO allies to provide similar support to Kyiv.

According to US Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg, the Trump administration’s position allows for the potential use of long-range strikes by Ukraine on Russian territory. He noted that Ukraine should utilize its potential to strike deep into Russia without any restrictions.

“I think, considering what he said, what Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Rubio have stated, the answer is yes. Use the capability to strike deep (into Russia – ed.). There are no sanctuaries.”

Technical Features and Kyiv’s Position

Tomahawk missiles, produced by RTX, have a range of up to 1,600 kilometers, significantly exceeding the capabilities of the ATACMS systems currently available to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Effective use of Tomahawk requires specialized launch platforms, such as vertical launch systems on ships or submarines, as well as modern guidance and control systems. The lack of such platforms in Ukraine may limit the operational use of this weapon.

During a meeting with Donald Trump in New York on September 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that acquiring long-range missiles could increase pressure on Russia and compel Vladimir Putin to begin negotiations, even without the actual use of these missiles. According to Western sources, Trump has not yet agreed to transfer Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, although Kyiv continues to insist on this step.

Ukraine has been actively reaching out to partners for long-range weaponry for over a year, alongside developing its own solutions, such as the “Palyanytsia” and “Flamingo” systems. However, these domestic developments fall short of American missiles in terms of technical specifications and combat effectiveness.
