This summer in Kyiv, the official opening of beaches has been canceled for the third consecutive year due to the threat of air attacks from the Russian Federation. This decision is driven by safety considerations, as large gatherings of people near water during air raid alerts can complicate access to shelters and increase risks to life.

Restrictions and Seasonal Work at Water Bodies
According to the municipal enterprise “Pleso,” following the decision of the Kyiv City Defense Council on May 17, 2023, the swimming season in the capital will not open, and residents are advised to refrain from visiting beaches and areas with large crowds near water. Meanwhile, the enterprise’s specialists continue seasonal work to maintain order and sanitary conditions in coastal zones. This includes cleaning, sanitary treatment, laboratory testing of water quality, and inspecting areas for the presence of explosive objects, including remnants of missiles or drones that may have been left after shelling.
Safety at Recreation Areas
In areas equipped with seasonal rescue posts, announcements will be made every 15 minutes over loudspeakers during air raid alerts, urging people to leave the danger zone. Authorities emphasize that recreation on the water remains dangerous due to the military situation, so residents must follow recommendations and be especially cautious when visiting water bodies.
