Oleksandr Alforov Appointed Head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory

The Cabinet of Ministers has made the decision to appoint Oleksandr Alforov, a well-known historian and military figure, as the head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory. This became known on June 27.

Who is Oleksandr Alforov

Oleksandr Alforov is a Ukrainian historian and public figure who also actively works as a video blogger. His YouTube channel has gathered around half a million subscribers. In addition, he is known as a television host, radio presenter, and serviceman. Since 2010, Alforov has held the position of research fellow at the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and he is also the author, co-author, and editor of 15 books and over 100 scientific publications.

Military Service and Public Activity

After the onset of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, Alforov joined the ranks of defenders, becoming an officer in the special operations unit “Azov-Kyiv.” Since September 2022, he has served in the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, where he held the position of head of the humanitarian training and information support group of the personnel psychological support department. He holds the rank of reserve major. At the same time, he led the expert group on de-Russification in Kyiv.
