An electronic petition has been posted in Kyiv demanding a complete ban on hookah smoking within the city.

On the official portal of the Kyiv City Council, an electronic petition has appeared, calling on the authorities to take decisive measures to restrict hookah smoking in the capital. The initiator of the petition emphasizes that this form of smoking poses a serious threat to the life and health of Ukrainians.

Medical Risks of Hookah Smoking

The author of the petition refers to modern medical studies that prove that the process of hookah smoking places significant strain on the bronchopulmonary system, which, in turn, increases the risk of developing diseases compared to traditional tobacco smoking. There is particular concern about the lack of proper state control over the composition of hookah mixtures, which creates additional health risks for citizens.

“Moreover, in Ukraine, there is virtually no strict control by government authorities over the composition of substances for hookahs, which does not exclude the addition of narcotic substances to smoking mixtures,” the document states.

Proposals for a Ban and the Role of City Authorities

The petition emphasizes that, in collaboration with medical institutions in Kyiv, it is necessary to legally prohibit the use of hookahs and similar devices in the capital as they pose a threat to the life and health of citizens. The author of the petition believes that the adoption of such a decision by the Kyiv City Council will help protect Kyiv residents from the harmful effects of smoking mixtures and contribute to the improvement of public health.
