Kyiv residents demand the liquidation of ‘Kyivzelenbud’ and an audit of its operations over the past five years

An electronic petition for the liquidation of the municipal association ‘Kyivzelenbud’ and an audit of the company’s activities over the last five years has garnered over 6,000 signatures. Now, according to the procedure, the city authorities are obliged to consider this appeal.

Content of the petition and main accusations

“We, the residents of the city of Kyiv, demand immediate action regarding the activities of the municipal association ‘Kyivzelenbud’, which, under the guise of caring for green spaces, systematically destroys healthy trees in the capital. These actions threaten the ecological balance of the city and are a direct violation of the rights of Kyiv residents to a safe and healthy environment,” the petition states.

The authors of the petition emphasize that under the pretext of maintaining green areas, ‘Kyivzelenbud’ has repeatedly cut down healthy trees, which they believe undermines the ecological situation in the capital. Among the most notorious cases, the petitioners mention the destruction of trees on Konyiskyi Street near the ruined estate of the Zelensky family, mass deforestation in Teremky, in the KPI park, and in the ‘Vidradnyi’ park in 2023, as well as the destruction of ancient oaks in Holosiivskyi Park in 2021.

Further actions of the city authorities

After the petition has gathered the required number of votes, the Kyiv authorities are to address the issues raised in it. In particular, it concerns the necessity of conducting a full audit of ‘Kyivzelenbud’s’ activities over the past five years to determine how justified the decisions regarding tree cutting were and whether the actions of the company truly aligned with the interests of the city and its residents.
