Discussion of memorandums between Ukraine and Russia
Putin emphasized that the subject of possible negotiations should be the consideration of memorandums prepared by both states. According to him, the content of the memorandums from Russia and Ukraine was predictably opposite, and he believes this is not surprising.
“Regarding the memorandums, as expected, nothing unexpected happened. I won’t tell you anything surprising either. These are two absolutely opposing memorandums… And I don’t think there’s anything astonishing about the fact that they were directly opposite,” noted the Russian leader.
Russia’s position on the ceasefire and the course of negotiations
Putin added that he does not consider it appropriate to disclose details on this topic, as it may be harmful to the further negotiation process. Russia also rejected the proposal for a temporary ceasefire lasting at least a month, which had previously been suggested by Ukraine and the United States.
It is worth recalling that the first two rounds of negotiations in Istanbul took place amid active hostilities, and their main outcomes were exchanges of prisoners of war and the transfer of the bodies of fallen soldiers.
