At the Kyiv Zoo, the winter period of care for rare hornbill birds, which were brought from the Kharkiv region, has concluded for the summer. Now these unique feathered creatures are stepping out to their summer enclosure to enjoy the warmth and a more natural environment.

How the Summer Space for Hornbill Birds is Arranged
The zoo keepers have carefully prepared a comfortable environment for the birds that closely resembles their natural habitat. They used wooden trunks and stumps, green bushes, grapevines, as well as steppe soil and grassy vegetation. This creates a cozy atmosphere for the birds, encouraging their natural behavior and activity.
Innovative Natural Enrichment for the Birds
To make the lives of the hornbill birds even more interesting and to stimulate their behavior, specialists have prepared special hiding spots with termite mounds and decaying logs. These contain treats that the birds love, including mealworms, zophobas, slugs, and other delicacies. This promotes their daily play and natural instincts.
