Restoration Concept for Historical Police Building in Lukyanivka is Being Violated

На Лук’янівці продовжують спотворювати старовинну будівлю

The historical building in Lukyanivka is undergoing inappropriate changes

In Kyiv, the old police station, which is a cultural heritage site, is experiencing changes to its exterior that are not in line with restoration efforts. Instead of the work outlined in the approved concept, the building is being insulated with modern materials, distorting its authenticity.

Deviation from the Approved Concept

As reported by Kyiv heritage protector Dmytro Perov, despite the inclusion of the Lukyanivka police station from 1901 in the Register of Monuments of Kyiv, the developer continues to alter the building’s facade by covering the walls with mineral wool and particle board, which are additionally painted light pink.

“Despite being included in the Register of Monuments of Kyiv, the Lukyanivka police station from 1901 continues to be distorted… Contrary to the concept approved by the heritage protection authority, the monument is simply being covered with mineral wool: particle boards are being glued to the walls of the historical building. Moreover, for some reason, they are being painted light pink,” wrote Dmytro Perov.

Approved Restoration and Its Violations

Last autumn, the architectural bureau Viharev Restoration presented a restoration concept for this monument located at Sichovykh Striltsiv Street, 91. According to the project, it was planned to restore the damaged roof, clean the exterior walls to reveal the yellow Kyiv brick masonry, and restore lost decorative elements. This approach was supported by the Advisory Council and approved by the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration.

However, the work currently being carried out by the developer significantly differs from the agreed-upon visualization. Experts emphasize the danger of losing the historical value of the facade due to the use of modern materials that do not correspond to either the building’s authenticity or the approved restoration plan.
