Ukraine is observing an intensification of the Russian Federation’s military preparations for new offensive operations. President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized this while commenting on the situation ahead of the international meeting in Alaska. He stressed that under the current circumstances, it is particularly important to maintain the unity of the community that supports Ukraine in its fight for independence and territorial integrity.

Ukraine’s Position and EU Support
President Zelensky thanked the leaders of the European Union for their “clear support for our independence, territorial integrity, and the very active approach to diplomacy that can help bring this war to a dignified peace.” One of the key themes in the statements of the heads of state and government of the EU was the emphasis that no peace decision can be made without the participation of Ukraine itself. At the same time, as noted in the joint statement of European leaders, a just and lasting peace must comply with international law, and territorial borders should not be changed by force. The Ukrainian people, according to European leaders, have the right to determine their own future. However, Hungary refused to support this statement.
Discussion of International Agreements and the Position of the USA
President Zelensky pointed out that the security of Ukraine and Europe is constantly discussed with international partners, and any decisions must strengthen collective capabilities for defense. He specifically emphasized the importance of consolidating the resolve of world leaders to counter Russian disinformation and attempts to impose scenarios favorable to Moscow.
“Indeed, we all support President Trump’s resolve and must together form positions that will not allow Russia to deceive the world once again. We see that the Russian army is not preparing to end the war. On the contrary, they are making movements that indicate preparations for new offensive operations. In such conditions, it is important that nothing threatens the unity of the world,” his statement, published on Telegram, reads.
It is worth recalling that on August 11, former U.S. President Donald Trump suggested the possibility of “some territorial exchange” between Ukraine and Russia, expressing dissatisfaction with Kyiv’s statements about the need for constitutional approval of such decisions. At the same time, according to Western media, the Russian authorities are not ready to abandon their claims to the occupied territories of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, despite statements about the possibility of a ceasefire if Ukrainian troops withdraw from the entire Donetsk region.
President Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine will not give up any part of its territory. He also noted that neither Kyiv nor the leaders of the European Union received an invitation to the summit in Alaska. Meanwhile, the U.S. administration and President Donald Trump are maintaining contact with Ukrainian and European leaders. A joint video conference is scheduled for August 13 at the initiative of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, which will involve representatives from key Western countries.
