The counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv has detained an agent of the Russian GRU who was involved in adjusting missile and drone attacks on the capital region. The perpetrator turned out to be a 44-year-old resident of Kyiv, who was recruited by Russian special services after he openly expressed pro-Russian views during a chat roulette broadcast.

How the Agent Network Operated
After recruitment, the man began gathering information about local businesses that he believed could be involved in the production of military equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. To obtain data, he communicated with acquaintances under the guise of casual conversations and also personally visited potential targets for additional reconnaissance. Furthermore, he monitored the movement routes and combat positions of mobile fire groups during air alerts.
“After recruitment, the individual began tracking the locations of local businesses that he believed could be involved in the production of military equipment for the Armed Forces. To gather information, he inquired about the ‘necessary’ details from acquaintances under the guise of casual conversations, and then visited the addresses of potential targets for further reconnaissance. Simultaneously, the traitor spied on the movement routes and combat positions of mobile fire groups during air alerts,” the SBU reported.
Detention and Evidence
The SBU had been monitoring the agent’s activities since the beginning of his intelligence work and took measures to secure strategic facilities. At the final stage of the special operation, the man was detained at his place of residence. During a search of his apartment, law enforcement seized two mobile phones containing an agent’s “report” — the files included photos of Ukrainian facilities with geolocation via Google Maps.
The individual has been notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — treason committed under martial law. The penalty for this article includes life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The suspect is currently in custody without the right to bail.
