The first stage of the prisoner exchange ‘1000 for 1000’ is complete: 390 defenders of Ukraine have returned home

As part of the implementation of the agreement on the exchange of prisoners, Ukrainian defenders have returned home. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the completion of the first part of this operation on his Telegram channel.

“We are bringing our people home. The first part of the agreement for the exchange of 1000 for 1000 has been implemented. This agreement was reached during a meeting in Turkey, and it is important to fully realize it,” the head of state noted.

Details of the exchange and future plans

According to Volodymyr Zelensky, today it was possible to return 390 Ukrainians who were in Russian captivity. He also mentioned that the exchange is expected to continue on Saturday and Sunday. “Thank you to everyone who helps, who works 24/7 to ensure that Ukrainians return home. It is very important to bring back everyone who is in captivity. We are checking every surname, information on each person. We will continue our diplomatic work to make such steps possible,” the president emphasized.

According to the Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, 270 military personnel and 120 civilians were released. Among those freed are servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Navy, Air Assault Forces, as well as representatives of the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service.

“The released defenders protected our land in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Kherson directions, and also participated in battles in the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kyiv regions,”

Among those newly released are three women and 387 men. They will receive medical examinations, assistance with physical and psychological rehabilitation, as well as appropriate payments for the time spent in captivity. Measures are also planned for their gradual return to peaceful life and recovery from their experiences.
