In Kyiv, during the summer months, the highest temperatures are recorded in the Kharkivskyi residential area, Osokorky, and Troieshchyna. These areas of the capital are considered the hottest by ecologists, which is linked to the peculiarities of urban planning and the lack of green spaces.

Temperature Contrast Between Green Zones and Built-Up Areas

“Recent studies in Kyiv have shown that in the summer during heatwaves, the temperature in dense parks and forests of Kyiv, especially near water, rises slightly above 20 degrees, in areas with relative greenery – up to 30 degrees, while in places of absolute development (Kharkivskyi District, Osokorky, Troieshchyna) – it overheats to over 40 degrees,” noted the ecologists.

Experts emphasize that the presence of green spaces and water bodies positively affects the microclimate of the city, helping to lower air temperatures on hot days. At the same time, in areas dominated by asphalt and dense development, thermometer readings can exceed 40 degrees.

Recommendations for Lowering Temperatures in the Capital

Ecologists urge the expansion of green zones in Kyiv and the planting of trees in any available areas. Additionally, it is suggested to create new water bodies and reduce the height of buildings to improve the urban climate.

Furthermore, specialists believe that restoring the open channels of small rivers, including Lybid, Konoplianka, Zapadynka, Hlybochytsia, Yurkivka, Nyvky, Syrets, and others, will also contribute to lowering temperatures in various parts of the capital.
