Expanding international support for Ukrainian soldiers
As part of the Interflex program, over 50,000 Ukrainian recruits have already received military training in the United Kingdom. Britain is coordinating efforts with 13 partner nations involved in this initiative. In addition to the basic infantry course, two more are currently being conducted: training for section and platoon commanders, as well as a program for future instructors.
“As the fight for peace continues, we must make Ukrainians the strongest possible deterrent to ensure that future peace,” said UK Defence Minister John Healey.
Future plans and investments in security
London has assured its readiness to continue strengthening military assistance in collaboration with partners so that Ukraine can effectively defend itself now and maintain deterrence in the future. This year, the United Kingdom is allocating £4.5 billion to support the Ukrainian army — a record amount for the entire period of cooperation.
Additionally, a coalition of countries led by the United Kingdom and France has developed strategies for deploying multinational military forces for possible support in Ukraine after a peace agreement is reached. Over 200 military experts and representatives from about 30 nations participated in the planning.
The Interflex program, which started in 2022, primarily targets newly mobilized individuals and volunteers. In just a few weeks, they undergo intensive courses in weapon handling, combat tactics, and first aid.
