Discussion on Future Peace in Ukraine
The meeting will take place against the backdrop of active diplomatic contacts between the U.S., Ukraine, and European Union countries. It is known that ahead of the meeting in Alaska, Donald Trump will have a separate conversation with European leaders to align a common position. The EU emphasizes its support for initiatives aimed at ending Russian aggression but stresses the need to uphold Ukraine’s sovereignty and principles of international law. European countries are confident that resolving the conflict is only possible by considering Kyiv’s position, and a just peace must guarantee the territorial integrity and inviolability of the state’s borders.
Ukraine’s Position on Territorial Issues
President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly stated that Ukraine will not make concessions regarding its territories. Following reports of the possibility of “some territorial exchanges” between Ukraine and Russia, proposed by Donald Trump, the Ukrainian side categorically rejected such an idea. It has also become known that during the upcoming summit in Anchorage on August 15, Zelensky and European leaders were not officially invited; however, communication between the parties continues through regular consultations.
“We see that the Russian army is not preparing to cease hostilities. On the contrary, they are making movements that indicate preparations for new offensive operations. In such conditions, it is important that nothing threatens the unity of the world,” his statement, published on Telegram, reads.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin, through his representatives, has stated readiness for a ceasefire only on the condition of the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk region and does not abandon claims to the occupied territories of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
It is also known that soon German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will initiate a group video conference involving leaders from the U.S., Ukraine, and European countries to coordinate further steps in international policy regarding the resolution of the conflict.
