The United Kingdom and Ukraine have signed a historic agreement for the transfer of missiles for the Thales air defense system. According to the UK government, this agreement includes the supply of over 5,000 air defense missiles, significantly strengthening the defense capabilities of both countries.
Support for Strengthening Ukraine’s Defense
The UK government emphasized that the missile supplies will enable Ukraine to more effectively counter the illegal military aggression of the Russian Federation and enhance its protection against a full-scale invasion. Additionally, the United Kingdom has confirmed bilateral assistance to Ukraine amounting to up to £283 million over the next year.
“The agreement will allow for the delivery of over 5,000 air defense missiles, which will not only significantly enhance the defense capabilities of the United Kingdom but also enable Ukraine to continue its fight, strengthening its protection against Russia’s illegal full-scale invasion.”
Further Initiatives and Financial Support
In June, London announced a record aid package for Ukraine amounting to £350 million, which includes the transfer of 100,000 drones by the end of 2025. Furthermore, last month, the UK government reported additional reinforcement of Ukraine’s air defense through the acquisition of 350 missiles funded by assets confiscated from the Russian Federation.
