The Verkhovna Rada Approved a New Government Led by Yulia Svyrydenko

On July 17, the Verkhovna Rada supported the appointment of new ministers in the government led by Yulia Svyrydenko. This decision received the backing of 253 members of parliament.

Key Appointments in the New Government

Mykhailo Fedorov became the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation. Oleksii Kuleba took the position of Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister for Community and Territorial Development. Taras Kachka was appointed Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.

Matviy Bidnyy headed the Ministry of Youth and Sports, while Herman Halushchenko was appointed Minister of Justice of Ukraine. Svitlana Hrynchuk became the Minister of Energy. Natalia Kalmykova remained in her position as Minister for Veterans Affairs, Ihor Klymenko is the Minister of Internal Affairs, Oksen Lisovyi is the Minister of Education and Science, Viktor Liashko is the Minister of Health, and Serhii Marchenko is the Minister of Finance.

Oleksii Sobolev led the newly created Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture. Denys Uliutin became the Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine.

Preconditions for Personnel Changes

On the morning of July 17, the parliament approved Yulia Svyrydenko’s candidacy for the position of Prime Minister of Ukraine.

“On July 14, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky proposed Svyrydenko to head the government of Ukraine and to ‘significantly renew its work’.”

Subsequently, Denys Shmyhal, who previously led the government, submitted his resignation. On July 16, the Verkhovna Rada made the decision to dismiss the government under his leadership. Until the appointment of the new government, all ministers were serving temporarily.
