U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a new deadline for Vladimir Putin regarding the conclusion of a peace agreement with Ukraine. During a press conference on July 28 in Scotland, following talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump stated that Putin is now given only 10 or 12 days to make a decision.
Trump’s Statements and Russia’s Reaction
Earlier that same day, the American leader noted that he was shortening the previous deadline of 50 days. He cited his disappointment with the Russian president as the reason for this decision, emphasizing that he already knows the answer to his proposals and the developments surrounding the peace agreement.
“I am announcing a new deadline of 10 or 12 days,” the U.S. leader stated on July 28 at a press conference following negotiations with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland.
The first warning, which lasted 50 days, was issued by Trump on July 14. According to him, this deadline was set to expire on September 3, after which he planned to impose strict economic sanctions on Russia and countries that purchase energy resources from it.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated at the end of last week that President Trump is losing patience with Russia’s actions in the war against Ukraine and does not intend to wait for steps from Moscow that could contribute to ending the conflict.
Sanctions, Arms Supply, and Moscow’s Position
Trump emphasized the readiness to sell weapons to U.S. allies to support Ukraine. Several countries, including Germany, have already expressed a desire to join this initiative.
Meanwhile, Russia responded to Trump’s remarks cautiously, not changing its official position. Russian representatives claim to be interested in peace, but exclusively on terms that are considered unacceptable in Kyiv. In particular, this includes demands for Ukraine to relinquish part of its territories, including those that Russia currently does not control or has never controlled.
