Attempt to Bribe a Judge and Falsification of Expertise

Law enforcement authorities have arrested two lawyers suspected of attempting to offer a bribe to a judge in one of Kyiv’s courts. According to the investigation, the lawyers were trying to influence the issuance of an acquittal for the defendant in the case of illegal appropriation of sand belonging to JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia.”

To implement their criminal plan, the lawyers obtained an expert opinion from a specialized institution as a bribe. This document, appointed by the court, was intended to be used by the defense as an argument for further bribing the judge and achieving an acquittal for their client.

“On October 22, 2025, at the request of the head of the SAP, a prosecutor, with the participation of NABU detectives, informed two lawyers, caught attempting to bribe a judge, of their suspicion,” the statement reads.

Criminal Charges and New Details

The actions of the lawyers have been classified under part 1 of Article 14 (preparation for a crime) and part 3 of Article 369 (offering unlawful benefits to a public official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation has established that one of the arrested individuals is also suspected of unauthorized access to the Unified State Register of Judicial Decisions, which was discovered back in April of this year.

The case is being handled by the prosecutor’s office and detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and decisions regarding further procedural actions concerning the suspects are being made.
