The Ukrainian-Polish working group on historical memory has outlined a list of search and exhumation works planned for 2026. This decision was made during the fifth meeting of the group, which took place on December 16 in Warsaw. The working group was established at the end of 2024 at the initiative of the culture ministers of both countries.

Agreed Locations for Research in Ukraine and Poland
In a joint communiqué, participants noted that exhumation works had already been organized in 2025 at the site of the former village of Puzhnyky (Ternopil region) and in the area of the former village of Stari Zboishy, which is now part of Lviv. As a result of these works, the remains were ceremoniously reburied on September 6 and November 14, with the participation of the families of the deceased, clergy, representatives of the authorities, and public organizations from both countries.
Additionally, in 2025, a reconnaissance trip is planned to the village of Uhly (Rivne region) to prepare for large-scale search operations in 2026. The Ukrainian expedition, together with Polish representatives, also conducted search operations in the village of Yurechkova (Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland).
Plans for 2026: New Research Locations
In 2026, work in Ukraine will continue in the area of the former village of Puzhnyky, in Lviv (the former village of Holosko), as well as in the village of Uhly, and in the territories of the former villages of Huta Penyatska and Ostryvky. In Poland, similar activities will be organized in Yurechkova, Sahrin, and Laskova.
“As a result, the exhumed bodies were ceremoniously buried on September 6 and November 14, with the participation of the families of the victims, clergy, representatives of the authorities, and public organizations from both states. A reconnaissance trip to the village of Uhly (Rivne region, Ukraine) is also planned in 2025 to prepare for large-scale search operations in 2026. The Ukrainian expedition, with the participation of the Polish side, conducted search operations in the village of Yurechkova (Subcarpathian Voivodeship),” the communiqué states.
It is noted that Ukraine and Poland exchanged lists of locations for the search and exhumation of the remains of victims of “mutual historical conflicts” and provided the necessary permits for conducting the relevant works.
