Security Talks and Influence on Russia

Volodymyr Zelensky noted that key security foundations for Ukraine are expected to be defined soon. The parties discussed possible ways to influence Russia, particularly urging it towards real negotiations to end the war. The president emphasized that sanctions and tariffs must remain relevant issues on the international agenda. According to him, Kyiv is ready for negotiations in a leaders’ format, and such a format is necessary to address the most important issues. Zelensky stressed that appropriate readiness is now needed from Moscow as well.

“We expect that key security foundations will be defined soon. We discussed how we can influence the Russians, compel them to engage in real negotiations and end the war. Sanctions and tariffs must remain on the agenda. We are ready to talk in a leaders’ format. This is the format needed to resolve key issues. Now, such readiness is also required from Moscow,” he wrote on Telegram.

Security Guarantees and International Support

Zelensky also reported on two promising agreements: the conclusion of a deal for arms procurement and a separate agreement regarding drones, which could significantly enhance the defense capabilities of both Ukraine and the USA.

Keith Kellogg, the U.S. President’s Special Representative for Ukraine, is visiting Kyiv, where he is participating in a series of official meetings with Ukrainian officials. His visit coincided with the celebration of Ukraine’s Independence Day.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington would contribute to security guarantees for Ukraine, but emphasized that the USA would no longer spend money to support Kyiv.

Security guarantees for Ukraine remain one of the priority issues in efforts to end the war. Discussions on this matter intensified following President Zelensky’s recent meeting with Donald Trump and European leaders in Washington.

According to media reports, within the framework of the so-called “Coalition of the Willing,” the United Kingdom has proposed to deploy Typhoon fighters in western Ukraine, as well as a brigade of 3,000-5,000 servicemen to train the Ukrainian army. France, Canada, and Australia are also considering sending their troops to the region. Czech President Petr Pavel stated his country’s readiness to join a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, while Lithuania confirmed its intentions to provide its forces for a possible peacekeeping operation.

European leaders recently agreed on a joint statement emphasizing that no peace agreement should restrict the Armed Forces of Ukraine or its cooperation with other states. The statement also highlights that Russia has no veto power over Ukraine’s Euro-integration and Euro-Atlantic course.
