Ukraine and the USA Held Complex but Productive Negotiations on Ending the War

The final negotiations between the delegations of the USA and Ukraine regarding the plan to end the war took place in Florida. The negotiation process continued after meetings in Geneva, and several changes were made to the plan proposed by the American side.

Main Outcomes of the Negotiations

The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, reported that the negotiations were challenging but yielded positive results. He noted that the parties were able to openly discuss all issues important to Ukraine, and the United States demonstrated support for Ukrainian aspirations.

“Our goal is a prosperous, strong Ukraine. We discussed all the issues that are important for Ukraine. And the USA supported us very much,” Umerov told reporters after the meeting.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also assessed the negotiations as productive. He pointed out that another party is involved in the dialogue, which must participate in reaching agreements. According to Rubio, consultations will continue when Special Envoy Steve Vitkoff travels to Moscow, and contacts with representatives of Russia have already been established, with the American side having an understanding of their positions.

Openness of Dialogue and Prospects for Peace

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that after the delegations’ work in the USA, Rustem Umerov provided a report on the key aspects of the dialogue, emphasizing the constructive nature of the discussions aimed at ensuring Ukraine’s sovereignty and national interests. Zelensky expressed gratitude to the U.S. president’s team and personally to Donald Trump for their efforts in shaping steps to end the war, as well as stated intentions to continue working on this issue.

The American president, commenting on the course of the negotiations, expressed confidence in the possibility of reaching a peace agreement regarding Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of stopping civilian casualties and noted that he is not setting strict deadlines for concluding the negotiations. According to the U.S. president, he discussed the outcomes of the meetings with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Vitkoff and was satisfied with their work.
