Readiness for Ceasefire

“Ukraine and all its allies are ready for a complete unconditional ceasefire on land, in the air, and at sea for at least 30 days, starting Monday, May 12,” Sybiha stated. According to him, if the Russian side agrees and “effective monitoring” is ensured, then a lasting ceasefire and confidence-building measures could pave the way for peace negotiations.

International Support and Calls to Russia

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as well as the Prime Ministers of Poland and the United Kingdom – Donald Tusk and Keir Starmer – issued a joint call for Russia to agree to a complete and unconditional 30-day ceasefire. They assured support for Ukraine and its European partners.

On May 10, French President Macron, the Prime Ministers of Poland and the United Kingdom, and German Chancellor Merz arrived in Kyiv for this meeting. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously announced plans to hold a Saturday summit of the “coalition of the willing,” confirming France’s participation.

“If Russia agrees and monitoring is ensured, a lasting ceasefire could facilitate peace negotiations”

After a phone call with Zelensky on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump called for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Otherwise, he stated, Washington and its allies would impose additional sanctions.

The format of international support unites the United Kingdom, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Ukraine.
