Escalation of Violence and Calls for International Response
“Ukraine has called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council in response to the latest escalation of terror by Russia, which has resulted in the deaths of people and destruction in Kyiv. Putin rejects peace efforts and wants to continue his war. The world has the necessary power to stop him – through unified pressure and a principled stance in favor of a complete, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire,” Sybiga stated on social media platform X.
The Foreign Minister expressed hope that the meeting would provide a clear expression of the international community’s decisive position on the need to stop the escalation and ensure an immediate ceasefire.
Scale of the Attack and Its Consequences for Kyiv
According to information from the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during the night of July 31, Russian troops carried out a massive airstrike on Ukraine, using 317 means of destruction: 309 drones and 8 cruise missiles. The primary target of the attack was Kyiv. Military reports indicate five direct hits from missiles, one of which struck a residential building in the capital, as well as 21 strike drones in 12 different locations. Debris from downed targets was recorded in 19 districts of Kyiv.
According to city authorities, as of the evening of July 31, 16 people had died and 159 were injured of varying degrees of severity due to the Russian attack in Kyiv.

This attack occurred against the backdrop of a statement from US President Donald Trump, who expressed great disappointment with Vladimir Putin’s actions and announced a reduction of the previously set 50-day deadline for Russia to begin peace negotiations to 10 days, starting from July 29.
