Details of the Diplomatic Conflict Between Ukraine and Hungary
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha noted that the decision to ban entry for three high-ranking military officials from Hungary is a reciprocal response to recent actions by Budapest. The names of the individuals affected by the restrictions have not been disclosed. At this time, there is no official position from the Hungarian side regarding the new restrictions.
“Every act of disrespect from Hungary will meet with an adequate response, especially – disrespect towards our soldiers,” Sybiha added.
Preconditions for Kyiv’s Decision
At the end of August, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced the imposition of an entry ban to Hungary and the Schengen Area for a Ukrainian unit commander responsible for strikes on the Druzhba oil pipeline. The President of Ukraine, commenting on this situation, emphasized that Kyiv perceives such actions as “another attempt by Hungarian officials to paint black as white” and to shift the responsibility for the war onto Ukraine.
Commander of the Drone Forces Robert Brovdi also criticized the position of the Hungarian authorities regarding the protection of the Druzhba oil pipeline. He stressed that Hungary should not take on more than it can afford, commenting on the imposed entry ban to the Schengen Area.
