Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized that the morning attack by Russia on a residential area in Sumy on Palm Sunday is “absolute evil,” as stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ announcement.

“Many civilians have been killed and injured. Such an attack on a major Christian holiday is absolute evil,” the minister noted.
Sybiha highlighted that Ukraine has already provided data on the war crime to all international partners and called for a decisive response. He also reminded that Russia has ignored the U.S. proposal for a ceasefire, which Ukraine supported, for the second consecutive month.
“We urge our partners to provide Ukraine with additional air defense resources and to increase pressure on Moscow. Strength is the only language they understand, and the only way to put an end to the horrific terror,” the Foreign Minister emphasized.
On April 13 at around 10:15, Russian military forces launched two missile strikes on the center of Sumy. According to the latest reports, 21 people were killed and over 30 were injured as a result of the attack.
Regular attacks on Ukrainian regions using various types of weapons, such as strike drones, missiles, and multiple rocket launchers, have become a common practice for Russian military forces.
The Russian leadership denies the targeting of its strikes on civilian objects, claiming that their actions do not lead to civilian casualties and the destruction of infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and energy facilities.
In Ukraine and international organizations, these strikes are classified as war crimes of the Russian Federation, with an emphasis on their deliberate nature.
According to the UN, since the beginning of the year, 413 civilians have been killed and over 2000 injured due to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. In the first three months of 2025, the number of casualties increased by 30% compared to the same period last year.
