The European Union’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, has strongly condemned the Russian missile attack on the city of Sumy, calling this act yet another war crime.
This is reported by Kyiv24
“The horrific Russian attack on Sumy this morning – two ballistic missiles struck the city center. This happened just as parishioners gathered for service on Palm Sunday! Another in a series of war crimes!”
At 10:15 AM on April 13, Russian military forces launched two missile strikes on the center of Sumy. It is known that a missile with cluster munitions was used for the attack, as reported by the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak. According to the latest data, 31 people have died as a result of these attacks, and more than 80 have been injured.
Regularity of Russian Attacks
The Russian armed forces continuously carry out strikes on the territory of Ukraine, using various types of weaponry, such as strike drones, ballistic and operational-tactical missiles, as well as multiple launch rocket systems.
International Reaction
The Russian leadership denies the facts of targeted attacks on civilian infrastructure, claiming that their army does not harm the civilian population. However, Ukrainian authorities and international organizations consider these actions to be war crimes of the Russian Federation, emphasizing their deliberate nature.
According to the UN, since the beginning of the year, 413 civilians have died in Ukraine due to Russian aggression, and more than 2000 have been injured. In the first three months of 2025, the number of casualties increased by 30% compared to the same period last year.
