Ukraine Signs New Free Trade Agreement with EFTA Countries

Ukraine has signed an updated free trade agreement with the countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) – Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein. This information was confirmed by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.

He noted that the agreement is a reboot of the 2010 document and is adapted to modern conditions: “This is a reboot of the 2010 agreement, adapted to the new reality. It opens up new opportunities for Ukrainian businesses in large markets with high purchasing power,” he emphasized.

Main Provisions of the Agreement

The new agreement includes a number of updated provisions regarding the simplification of trade procedures, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, public procurement, technical cooperation, and the protection of intellectual property rights. The document also features new sections dedicated to e-commerce, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as issues of trade and sustainable development.

Additional Agreements in the Agricultural Sector

In addition to the main agreement, Ukraine has signed updated agreements in the agricultural sector with Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland. According to Shmyhal, these agreements will help reduce barriers and expand access for Ukrainian goods to the markets of these countries.
