The Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, during a Security Council meeting held at Ukraine’s request, reiterated Moscow’s official position regarding the strikes in Kryvyi Rih on April 4. He stated that the primary target of these attacks was a meeting of military officials, and the casualties among the civilian population were the result of “unprofessional actions” by Ukrainian air defense forces.

“According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, as a result of a precision strike by a missile on a munitions depot at the location of the meeting with commanders of units and Western instructors, the enemy’s losses amounted to up to 85 servicemen and officers from foreign states, as well as up to 20 units of automotive equipment… Unfortunately, due to the unprofessional actions of Ukraine’s air defense, a missile launched to intercept became the cause of civilian casualties in the area adjacent to the restaurant,” claimed the Russian diplomat.
On the evening of April 4, Russian forces struck the center of a residential neighborhood in Kryvyi Rih with a ballistic missile. The missile hit near a children’s playground, resulting in the deaths of 20 people, including nine children. Dozens of others were injured.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that the strike was “precision-guided” and targeted the location of a meeting with commanders of units and Western instructors at a restaurant in Kryvyi Rih. Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine denies this information, emphasizing its falsehood.
The General Staff also noted that Russian troops, using a ballistic missile “Iskander-M” with a cluster warhead, struck civilian infrastructure, leading to significant casualties.
The investigative project “System” revealed that the restaurant mentioned by the Russian Ministry of Defense was actually hosting a conference for beauty industry workers and a birthday celebration.
