Key Agreements Between Ukraine and the U.S.

Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S. Olga Stefanishyna reported that the goal of this visit is to finalize two strategic documents covering security guarantees and the long-term economic prosperity of the country. The Ukrainian side aims for both agreements to align closely with national interests.

“We are working on two key documents – agreements on security guarantees and economic prosperity for Ukraine totaling up to $800 billion, which may be signed at the World Economic Forum in Davos.”

President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the Ukrainian team, consisting of National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, Head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Budanov, and leader of the parliamentary faction Davyd Arakhamia, is already heading to the U.S. to coordinate these agreements. According to the head of state, the bilateral document on security guarantees for Ukraine is practically ready for signing at the highest level with the U.S. president.

International Dimension of the Negotiations and the Role of the U.S.

The visit of the Ukrainian delegation comes against the backdrop of a statement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that it is Ukraine, not Russia, that is delaying the process of reaching a potential peace agreement.

Additionally, the day before, Bloomberg reported on the intention of U.S. Special Representative Steve Witkoff and advisor Jared Kushner to visit Moscow. On January 6, negotiations of the “Coalition of the Willing” took place in Paris regarding ways to end the Russian-Ukrainian war and guarantees for Ukraine, which also involved Witkoff and Kushner.

As a result of this meeting, the Paris Declaration was published, which outlines the establishment of reliable security guarantees and the deployment of multinational forces on Ukrainian territory after the cessation of hostilities, as well as the involvement of support from the U.S.
