Foreign Ministry’s Position on Euro-Atlantic Integration

The ministry emphasized that Ukraine’s security is closely linked to its accession to NATO, while its political and economic future directly depends on integration into the EU. According to the Foreign Ministry’s position, recent agreements among the participating states of the so-called Coalition of Willing also recognize that Ukraine’s membership in the European Union is viewed as one of the key security guarantees for the country.

“We proceed from the understanding that Ukraine’s security future is inextricably linked to NATO, while its political and economic future is tied to the European Union. Furthermore, the participating states of the Coalition of Willing recently agreed that Ukraine’s EU membership is one of the security guarantees for Ukraine,” the ministry stated.

The Importance of Membership for Europe and Partners

The Foreign Ministry underscores that Ukraine’s accession to both unions is not only a guarantee of national security but also contributes to strengthening stability throughout Europe and the Euro-Atlantic space. This position is supported in the decisions and leadership of NATO and the EU, as well as by leaders of partner countries, including Poland.

The ministry is convinced that discussions regarding Ukraine’s future membership in NATO and the EU are of strategic importance, especially in light of the ongoing Russian aggression. The discussion of integration prospects is not premature; on the contrary, it is extremely necessary to ensure the security of both Ukraine and the entire European system.

Separately, the Foreign Ministry expressed gratitude to Poland for its active support since 2022, which includes military assistance, the organization of logistical hubs for international support for Ukraine, and hospitality for millions of Ukrainians. The ministry is confident that the solidarity of the Polish people and government forms a strong foundation for a shared future in a united Europe.

It is worth noting that the day before, Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated in an interview that due to the state of war in Ukraine, NATO membership is currently impossible, as it would involve both Poland and Lithuania in the conflict. He also characterized Ukraine’s accession to the EU as “premature,” although he emphasized that he is not participating in the relevant discussions.
