The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has sharply criticized the Hungarian government’s decision to block access to 12 Ukrainian news websites. MFA representative Georgiy Tikhiy stated that in this way, the Hungarian authorities have restricted the citizens of Hungary’s access to independent journalism based on verified facts.

“The difference is that Ukraine blocks Russian propaganda, while Orbán’s government blocks Hungarians’ access to fact-based journalism. But for them, the further from the truth, the better”
Reasons for Hungary’s Restrictions
Today, the administration of Hungary’s Prime Minister announced the blocking of several Ukrainian information resources. The Hungarian side described this decision as a response to Ukraine’s recent blocking of several websites that disseminated pro-Kremlin propaganda. According to the head of the Prime Minister’s administration, Gergely Gulyás, the restrictions apply to those resources that published critical materials about the sanctions policy against Russia, military support for Ukraine, and the activities of the EU and NATO. He emphasized that Hungary is acting on the principle of reciprocity, implementing “mirror measures” against Ukrainian news portals.
Blocking Propaganda Resources in Ukraine
The Hungarian official described Ukraine’s actions regarding the blocking of foreign websites as an “unjustified attack,” noting that Budapest, as a sovereign state, has the right to a “proportional response.” It is known that in September of this year, the Security Service of Ukraine initiated the blocking of 14 information resources from Hungary, Romania, Moldova, and Greece that spread Russian propaganda and disinformation.
