On the night of July 4, Ukrainian air defense forces successfully shot down dozens of strike drones of the ‘Shahed’ type, which the Russian Federation used during a massive attack. This was reported by President Volodymyr Zelensky in his evening address.

Scale of the Russian Attack and Actions of Ukrainian Air Defense

According to the president, the Russian army deployed over 500 strike drones and missiles in yet another large-scale bombardment. A significant portion of the enemy’s ‘Shaheds’ was destroyed thanks to interceptor drones, which proved their effectiveness during this attack. Zelensky emphasized the need to increase the production of such drones and enhance the training of drone operators to improve the country’s defense capabilities.

“Unfortunately, there were hits. There were also important results for the interceptor drones today. Dozens of ‘Shaheds’ were shot down specifically by interceptors. We will scale this up as much as possible. More production of such interceptor drones. More training and preparation for our drone operators. A clear task,” he said.

International Cooperation and Outcomes of the Strike

During a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky discussed further strengthening of Ukrainian air defense and the issue of joint production of modern defense technologies. The president emphasized that this cooperation is necessary for both countries. Additionally, an agreement was signed between Ukraine and the American company Swift Beat regarding the joint production of drones, including interceptors. Furthermore, the main topic of the Ukrainian delegation’s visit to Denmark was cooperation in the field of interceptor drone production.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the main strike by the Russians targeted Kyiv. The enemy used 11 missiles and over five hundred drones, resulting in damage in eight locations (nine missiles and 63 drones), as well as debris falling in 33 locations. The mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, reported 24 injured and one deceased. In Kryvyi Rih, six people were injured due to the Russian shelling, as stated by the head of the Dnipropetrovsk region, Serhiy Lysak.
