Purpose of the Meeting and Key Issues

The main goal of the visit was to obtain comprehensive information from American partners about the progress of their conversation in Moscow, as well as to familiarize themselves with all current projects of peace proposals. According to Umerov, the Ukrainian delegation aimed to thoroughly analyze these documents and discuss them with the President of Ukraine to determine further steps towards ending the war.

“The primary task of the Ukrainian team was to receive complete information from the American side regarding their conversation in Moscow and all drafts of relevant proposals, to discuss them in detail with the President of Ukraine. Together with all partners, we must do everything for a dignified end to this war. Today, we will provide the President of Ukraine with complete information about all aspects of the dialogue with the American side and all documents,” the official wrote on Telegram.

Positions of the Parties and Progress of Negotiations

On December 8, Donald Trump emphasized that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, had not yet been briefed on the American peace proposals. He stated that his team supports these ideas, and Russia is generally satisfied with the proposed plan, although “Russia would prefer to have all of Ukraine.”

Following this, Volodymyr Zelensky noted that during the negotiations mediated by the U.S., there remain significant discrepancies among the participants regarding issues of territorial integrity.

Last week, negotiations took place in Moscow between American representatives Witkoff and Kushner and Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding potential parameters of a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. Vladimir Putin acknowledged that during this meeting, the Russian side disagreed with several points of the American plan for ending the war.

After the Moscow meeting, the Ukrainian delegation continued consultations in the U.S. with representatives of the Trump administration, which lasted several days.
