The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, has claimed that he is being persecuted by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. According to Orban, Ukraine would not be able to sustain itself without the support of NATO and the European Union, of which Hungary is a member.
This is reported by Kyiv24
“Hungary is a member of NATO and the EU. Ukraine would have collapsed long ago without the support of these two organizations. President Zelensky, with all due respect, stop persecuting us!” – Orban wrote on X on the evening of September 27.
Tensions Between Kyiv and Budapest Escalate Over Drone Incident
The Prime Minister’s remarks are a continuation of a series of mutual statements indicating a new escalation of tensions in relations between Ukraine and Hungary. The conflict intensified after the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released an image of the alleged route of a Hungarian drone that supposedly violated the airspace of the Transcarpathian region.
The Hungarian Ministry of Defense promptly responded, denying the information that a Hungarian military drone had been on Ukrainian territory. The ministry emphasized that President Zelensky’s statement was not accurate.
Ukrainian Side Records Drone Incidents at the Border
On the afternoon of September 26, Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, had reported recent drone incidents near the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. Ukrainian military personnel recorded the intrusion of reconnaissance drones, which, according to preliminary information, may belong to Hungary.
The President of Ukraine clarified that these drones could be conducting reconnaissance of industrial potential in border areas and instructed to verify all facts and promptly inform about the results of the investigation.
At the same time, Hungary joined the discussion of an initiative to create a “drone wall” along with representatives from several European Union countries, which took place on September 26.
