Lavrov Denies Russia’s Drone and Missile Attacks on EU and NATO Countries

Лавров твердить, що РФ «ніколи не спрямовувала безпілотники і ракети» по країнах ЄС і НАТО

The head of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, stated that Russia allegedly did not carry out missile or drone attacks on European Union countries and NATO members. He voiced this position after participating in a session of the UN General Assembly at the end of September.

Russia’s Statements on Drone Usage

In his comments, Lavrov emphasized that Russia does not hide its actions and does not target civilian objects, nor has it launched drones or missiles towards European countries and the North Atlantic Alliance. He also reiterated statements from the Russian military command that drones from Russian territory allegedly could not reach Poland, as their range is less than the distance from the Russian border to Poland.

“We have nothing to hide. We never attack civilian objects; incidents happen, but we never conduct targeted fire into the sky, and we never direct our drones and missiles at states located in Europe and the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance,” asserted the head of the Russian diplomatic service.

Context of the Drone Situation in Europe

In reality, it is known that Russian drones can reach the Lviv region, which borders Poland. Additionally, there have been multiple reports of additional fuel tanks being found in drones discovered on Polish territory. It is also worth remembering that Poland borders the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, and for its operations, the Russian military has also used Belarusian territory.

Throughout September 2025, several NATO member countries reported discovering drones in their airspace. In particular, in Poland, in the Warmia and Masuria region, on September 20, the police found an “unidentified object” near a residential building, as reported by the spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, Karolina Galecka.

On the night of September 10, 19 drones were recorded flying in Polish airspace, three of which were shot down by air defense forces. During the incident, both Polish and allied aircraft were present in the air, stationed in Poland.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki assessed the incursion of Russian drones as an attempt by Russia to test the response of Polish and NATO security structures.
