Майже НАТО: у Німеччині розповіли, якими бачать гарантії безпеки для України

Germany has stated the need for strong security guarantees for Ukraine that would effectively bring it closer to NATO standards.

Security Guarantees Comparable to NATO Membership

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul emphasized that Ukraine must receive security guarantees that are so substantial they are essentially equivalent to the standards set for members of the North Atlantic Alliance. According to him, such guarantees are critically important for Ukraine’s future and should be provided by as broad a range of states as possible.

“We cannot expect Ukraine to seriously consider territorial concessions if it does not receive at least real security guarantees from as many states as possible, ensuring that at least the rest (of Ukrainian territory, – ed.) will be safe,” Wadephul said.

International Support and Expanding the Circle of Guarantors

Johann Wadephul stressed the importance of security guarantees for Ukraine being provided not only by European countries. He highlighted that other influential states, including the United States of America, should also be involved in the process. According to him, around 30 countries, including Japan, have already expressed their readiness to support Ukraine on security matters in the post-war period.

The head of Germany’s Foreign Ministry also warned that any violation of the provided security guarantees would be regarded as an attack on Ukraine. This position should become an important element of international policy in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state.
