A Kyiv resident faces up to ten years in prison for the illegal acquisition of methadone

In the capital, law enforcement uncovered a 41-year-old local woman who systematically deceived medical staff for two years to illegally obtain narcotic drugs.
Scheme for Illegally Obtaining Methadone
The woman was undergoing substitution maintenance therapy due to opioid addiction and was receiving treatment at a specialized medical facility. At the same time, she concealed this fact from other doctors, allowing her to obtain prescriptions for the narcotic drug methadone from several medical institutions simultaneously.
During the investigation, it was established that the woman received over one hundred prescriptions for the purchase of methadone. Her actions were classified under Part 1, Part 2 of Article 308 (acquisition of narcotic substances by fraud) and Part 1, Part 2 of Article 318 (use of illegally obtained documents granting the right to obtain narcotic substances) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Legal Consequences
As noted by law enforcement, the 41-year-old Kyiv woman, who was undergoing substitution maintenance therapy due to opioid addiction and receiving treatment at a medical facility, repeatedly concealed this fact from other doctors. As a result, the patient obtained prescriptions for the narcotic medication methadone from several medical institutions simultaneously.
The specified articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provide for a penalty of imprisonment for up to ten years.
