Key Security and Euro-Integration Issues
During the talks, the parties focused on security challenges, cross-border cooperation, as well as infrastructure and energy development issues. The joint move towards EU membership was discussed separately. Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the importance of the prompt opening of all six clusters on the path to integration, which will be a joint achievement for both Ukraine and Moldova, as well as for the entire European Union.
“I am pleased to welcome the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, to Ukraine. We appreciate this visit on such a special day when we remember the disaster at the Chernobyl station and the colossal solidarity and selflessness of our people, which allowed us to protect our country and our entire region, all of Europe and the world from an even greater radiation catastrophe,” Zelensky emphasized.
Support for Moldova and Shared European Values
The President of Ukraine underscored his readiness to continue supporting Moldova on security issues, particularly regarding the situation in the Transnistrian region. The prospect of developing trilateral cooperation formats involving Romania was also discussed. Maia Sandu, for her part, noted in her address that she visits Ukraine to participate in events dedicated to the anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy and to hold talks with Zelensky.
Sandu emphasized that the Chernobyl disaster demonstrated the absence of borders in global challenges. She also highlighted the importance of uniting the efforts of countries for peace and security on the European continent, stating that Moldova’s place is alongside those who choose to build rather than destroy.
