Zelensky Announces Preparation for Meeting with US Representatives on Security and Peace

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a planned meeting between Ukrainian and American delegations at the end of the week. The main topic of the negotiations will be the development of a basic security guarantees plan and the possibility of future negotiations between Ukraine and Russia regarding the establishment of peace.

Preparation of the Basic Security Guarantees Plan

During a joint press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Kyiv, Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the Ukrainian side will actively collaborate with American partners throughout the week to develop a clear strategy for security guarantees. He highlighted the importance of ongoing consultations and noted that a meeting with US Special Representative Kellogg is scheduled for today, dedicated to preparing for potential negotiations with the Russian Federation.

“Today there will be a meeting with Kellogg (the US Special Representative, – ed.) to continue this topic — the development regarding the preparation of possible future meetings with the Russian side. At the end of the week, there will be a meeting of the Ukrainian and American teams…,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.

Diplomatic Contacts and Next Steps

The President also reported that on August 24, the head of the President’s Office had a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Rubio and other partners. Today, the Ukrainian military leadership plans to discuss current issues with international allies, and on Wednesday, a meeting with representatives of the National Security Council (NSA) is scheduled.

Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that by the end of the current week, it will be possible to agree on a basic plan for security guarantees. The President added that additional time is needed to discuss the details and emphasized the importance of the American side’s position regarding Russia’s willingness to consider the proposed configuration of the negotiation process. This involves a bilateral meeting, and later a trilateral meeting with the participation of European leaders.
