Zelensky Approved Sanctions Against 9 Russian Organizations, Including ‘Artek’ in Crimea

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed a decree imposing sanctions against a number of individuals and legal entities from the Russian Federation. The relevant document was published on the official website of the head of state on June 10.

The Sanction List Includes Key Russian Organizations

The decree confirms the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, which includes four annexes, including a list of legal entities. Among the organizations subject to sanctions are:

  • The children’s camp ‘Artek’, registered in Russia and located in occupied Crimea;
  • The regional branch of the all-Russian public-state organization ‘Voluntary Society for Assistance to the Army, Aviation, and Navy of Russia in Sevastopol’ (DTSAAF);
  • The autonomous non-commercial organization for additional professional education ‘Maritime Innovation Center of the Regional Branch of DTSAAF’ in Sevastopol;
  • The public-state movement for children and youth ‘Movement of the First’ in Moscow;
  • The regional branch of ‘Movement of the First’, registered in occupied Henichesk in the Kherson region;
  • The organization ‘Center for Humanitarian and Cultural Initiatives “Rassvet”’ in Moscow;
  • The higher education institution ‘Melitopol State University’ in occupied Melitopol;
  • The organization ‘Russian Society “Znanie”’ in Moscow;
  • The all-Russian public organization of marines ‘Typhoon’, Moscow.

The Essence and Consequences of the New Sanctions

According to the decision, a range of economic and other restrictive measures will be applied to these entities. Among them are asset blocking, prohibition of certain types of trade operations, and suspension of the fulfillment of economic and financial obligations.

‘Control over the implementation of the decree is entrusted to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.’

In May of this year, the president also signed a decree imposing sanctions against a number of Ukrainian citizens, including blogger Myroslav Oleshko, former advisor to the President’s Office Oleksiy Arestovych, and political scientist Kostiantyn Bondarenko. At that time, restrictions were also imposed on 81 legal entities.
