Discussion on Long-Range Capabilities and Supply of Tomahawks

During the talks, particular attention was paid to the prospects of enhancing Ukraine’s long-range capabilities. However, the parties decided not to make public statements regarding this aspect. As Zelensky explained, the U.S. is not seeking escalation, so both sides refrained from official comments.

“We talked about air defense… We decided to work more on production… We will work on this,” he told reporters.

It is known that the Ukrainian delegation presented maps to the White House highlighting vulnerable points in the Russian military infrastructure and economy. After the meeting, media reports claim that Zelensky held phone consultations with leaders of European countries, although there is currently no official confirmation of this information.

Technical Specifications of Tomahawk and Positions of the Parties

Before the negotiations, Donald Trump confirmed that the issue of possible supply of “Tomahawk” missiles to Ukraine would be considered. At the same time, he refrained from making a final decision regarding the transfer of these weapons. According to Trump, the U.S. military also needs “Tomahawks,” and ending the war is a priority. He emphasized that achieving peace is possible even without the use of these missiles, noting that the parties are already close to this.

Tomahawk missiles, manufactured by RTX, are capable of striking targets at distances of up to 1,600 kilometers. This is several times greater than the range of the American ATACMS missile systems currently used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Tomahawk also has higher speed and power compared to Ukrainian drones, which often encounter modern Russian air defense systems during operations deep in enemy territory.

Ukraine has been insisting on the need to receive long-range weapons from partners for over a year. At the same time, Kyiv is developing its own high-tech projects, including the “Palyanytsya” and “Flamingo” systems. However, in terms of combat characteristics, they fall short of the Tomahawk.
