Coordination of Positions and Security Issues
In the process of preparing for the meeting, all important aspects of the bilateral conversation were discussed, aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s position on the international stage. Zelensky emphasized that special attention was given to military assistance issues, particularly the possibility of acquiring Patriot air defense systems and Tomahawk cruise missiles, as well as other modern weapons.
“All aspects of the conversation must be worked out so that Ukraine is truly strengthened. We have already discussed certain things with President Trump – there are outlines of solutions that can help, regarding the Patriots, regarding the Tomahawks, which is very important, and some other weapons. It is important to discuss sensitive matters personally – you can’t say everything over the phone. We have a clear vision of how the steps of America, the steps of Europe, our other partners, and our steps here in Ukraine can bring us closer to ending the war,” said the President of Ukraine.
Plans for the Meeting in Washington and Dialogue with the U.S.
The meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump is set to take place in Washington this week. Donald Trump has already confirmed his intentions to negotiate with his Ukrainian counterpart, as he informed reporters aboard Air Force One.
Prior to this event, on October 12, Zelensky noted that he had a “very productive conversation” with Donald Trump, which was already the second in the last two days. This indicates an active dialogue between the leaders aimed at achieving concrete solutions to enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities and energy resilience.
