Participation of NATO Leaders and Key Partners
Leaders from the eastern and northern flanks of NATO have been invited to the event in the Lithuanian capital. Among them are representatives of the Bucharest Nine (Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Estonia), as well as countries from Northern Europe, including Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland, and Sweden. Ukraine is also participating in the summit. The NATO Secretary General was also present at the meeting.
Discussion on Security, Defense, and Support for Ukraine
During the summit, the parties plan to discuss ways to strengthen the security and defense capabilities of the eastern flank of the Alliance, as well as preparations for the upcoming NATO summit, which will take place on June 24-25 in The Hague. One of the key topics will be further support for Ukraine in countering Russian aggression and strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.
It is noted that on May 21, European Union countries agreed to establish a defense fund, Security Action for Europe (SAFE), amounting to 150 billion euros. On May 27, the EU Council approved the first large-scale defense investment program at the EU level with the same funding amount.
