Strengthening Diplomatic Relations and European Security
While communicating with the ambassadors, Zelensky emphasized the importance of joint actions to ensure stability in Europe and stressed the desire to achieve reliable peace for Ukraine. The president highlighted that the united efforts of Ukraine and partner countries contribute to enhancing security on the continent.
“I welcomed them on the beginning of their diplomatic missions and thanked their countries for supporting Ukraine. We discussed strengthening our cooperation, particularly in the security and defense sector. Together, we are adding security resilience to all of Europe and moving towards reliable and guaranteed peace in Ukraine,” the head of state noted.
New Ambassador Appointments and Procedural Details
In September 2025, the Norwegian ambassador Lars Hansen officially began his duties in Ukraine, presenting copies of his credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the new Czech ambassador Luboš Veselý. The German ambassador Heiko Thomas also presented his credentials earlier this week. His predecessor, Martin Jäger, left the position to lead the Federal Intelligence Service of Germany.
Credentials are official documents that an ambassador presents to the head of state during a special ceremony to obtain permission to carry out diplomatic duties. The original document is provided to the president, while a copy is given to the foreign minister of the host country. Only after this procedure can the ambassador fully commence their mission.
In his addresses, Zelensky has repeatedly thanked international partners for their resolute support of Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty, emphasizing the importance of unity and joint efforts to strengthen European positions.
