Ukraine’s Position on Peace and Territories
Zelensky stressed that Ukraine is open to genuine solutions that would contribute to establishing peace, but exclusively in the interests of the Ukrainian people. According to him, any agreements made without Ukraine’s participation or that contradict its interests cannot lead to genuine peace.
“The answer to the Ukrainian territorial issue is already in the Constitution of Ukraine. No one will or can deviate from this. Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier.”
The President also noted that Ukraine is ready to cooperate with all international partners, including President Donald Trump, to achieve real and lasting peace that will not fall victim to Moscow’s political ambitions.
International Initiatives and Reactions
Earlier, Donald Trump suggested the possibility of a “territorial exchange” between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, as well as the return of part of Ukrainian lands. In turn, Vladimir Putin informed Trump’s special envoy, Stephen Witkoff, of his readiness to agree to a complete ceasefire if Ukraine withdraws its troops from the eastern part of the Donetsk region.
A meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin is scheduled for August 15, 2025, in Alaska. This will be the first summit between the two presidents since the Geneva meeting between Putin and Joe Biden in June 2021, which took place before the onset of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine.
Speaking at the White House after signing a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Trump stated that reaching an agreement on a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia is “approaching.” Meanwhile, details of the upcoming summit have not yet been disclosed.
